In addition to classics by Fillekes, Niegeman, Kho Liang Ie and Aldo van den Nieuwelaar, Atelier Artiforte will be introducing new work by today's best lighting designers such as David Derksen, Rick Tegelaar and Rachel Griffin.

KHO
LIANG
IE

After studying at the Rietveld Academy, Kho Liang Ie (1927 - 1975) became a staff member and later editor-in-chief of the magazine Goed Wonen. At the same time, he established himself as an independent interior architect and designer of furniture for established names such as Artifort, Bruynzeel, Fristho and Mosa. His extremely modern but accessible furnishing of the new Schiphol Airport in 1963 brought him much praise. His K-46 lamp for Atelier Artiforte is an icon for the brand. Transparent, unaffected and accessible, with a subtle reference to his origins.

ALDO
VAN DEN
NIEUWELAAR

A year before he established himself as an independent designer, in 1968 Aldo van den Nieuwelaar (1944 - 2010) designed an innovative series of lamps in which the light source was the starting point: the shape of the light source determined the design of the various luminaires in the TC Series (Tubular Construction), with the TC-6 Circle Lamp as its best-known icon. For Pastoe, Van den Nieuwelaar designed the iconic Amsterdammer cabinet, known for its shuttered cabinet door. He received the Kho Liang Ie prize for this piece in 1986. Aldo van den Nieuwelaar's work is included in various museum collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Booijmans van Beuningen and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

In the traditional workshop, they mainly produce standard lamps with lampshades in a traditional way. Fillekes is an inventive and creative entrepreneur and soon starts designing himself. In the fifties, the collection was modernised with many of his designs, of which the Magneto is the best known. He asked Kho Liang Ie and Johan Niegeman to design for Atelier Artiforte.
