Born in Rotterdam in 1918, Hendrik (Henk) Fillekes (1918 - 1983) took over Lichtornamenten Atelier Artiforte on 1 January 1946, together with partner Johan van Wierst. At the time, the traditional atelier mainly manufactured traditional floor lamps with lampshades. Later, in the 1950s and 1960s, the company modernised, and Henk Fillekes asked Kho Liang Ie and Johan Niegeman, among others, to design for them.
In the 1950s, the collection develops with many designs by Fillekes’ hand, of which the Magneto is the most famous. This timeless design is and remains special. This lamp was assembled by hand in the 1950s and has a solid metal tripod base, connected to a long arm attached with a round magnet (hence the name 'Magneto'). The floor lamp is fully adjustable due to the ingenious use of the round magnet. The base and shade are painted black, the arm is nickel-plated metal. This eye-catcher will look great in any home, interior or office.
